Last day of classes

Today's the last day of classes. I'll be lugging around a ton of portfolios by the end of the day. Poor me!

I had promised my Advanced Poetry class a pizza party, but I have no money. I mean, really. . . I have no money. So I'm not sure what to do. I think I can scrounge together a few leftover pieces of candy and cookies.

One of my former professors came in on the last day with a bottle of port. I suppose I could do that, but . . . I don't really like port, and I don't want to part with any of the liquor we have in the house.

Got any suggestions? Should I just bag it and say I can't buy you guys pizza because I'm poor, or should I try to put something together with whatever's in the house . . . OR, should I bite the bullet and buy a damn pizza?

*sigh*

It depends: how much to you really like your students in this class on the whole? If you think they really kicked ass work-wise & in the classroom, then maybe you gotta bite the bullet & get some pizza. If you're on the fence, any treats you can scrounge up should do. It's too bad you didn't propose a potluck kind of party where every student needs to bring something - it takes the financial burden off you. Ah, the challenges of teaching: to pizza or not to pizza? Heh.

If you have time--bake cookies. Cheap and yummy.

INGREDIENTS:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup butter or margarine, room temperature
1 package (12 ounces or 2 cups) semisweet chocolate chips
1 to 2 cups chopped walnuts or pecans, optional

PREPARATION:

Sift flour, baking soda, and salt into a large bowl. Add sugars, eggs, vanilla and butter. With an electric hand held mixer at medium speed, beat until smooth and well mixed, about 1 minute.

Stir in chocolate chips and nuts, if using. Drop by tablespoonful about 2 inches apart, onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake chocolate chip cookies at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes, or until browned. Remove chocolate chip cookies to rack to cool. Makes about 6 dozen chocolate chip cookies.

And if you don't have time, make them anyway when you get home because they're cheap and yummy.

Maybe you could *gasp* make a pizza?

It looks easy. I mean, I watch my SO make it all the time. Hee! How hard can it be? ;-)

So . . . I caved and bought the damn thing. Two pizzas. . . It wasn't too bad for the pocket book. I didn't get much pizza, however.

The students are very hungry.

you can do what i do and do a "buffet"...i pass a sign up sheet out with things like napkins, cups, chips, pop, fruit, cookies, etc and about 5-10 slots for "$2 for pizza". Students are more than happy to do that and in fact those slots are the first to fill! then we have quite the spread for our last class--i always give left overs to the secretaries.
