Kundiman 2008

I'm getting ready to head to the airport for my flight to Charlottesville, VA. I'll be heading to the 2008 Kundiman Retreat. I've only missed one retreat and it killed me.

I'll be blogging from there for the next few days.

Sad to leave L for so long, but luckily Meredith's sister came up from SF to help.

He's sucking his thumb now . . . ruh roh.

I see the third manuscript. It's right there, it's just in bits and pieces that need clear transitional pieces to conjoin them into the cohesive whole

Maybe that work can get done sometime this week.

Combine the last three or so posts into one poem? HULK SMASH LINEBREAK WITH CHAINSAW. HULK SMASH CHAINSAW WITH POSSUM. POSSUM DON'T LAST SO LONG AS CHAINSAW.

This is Meredith posting as "Oliver" but it's really me, Meredith.

L. sucking his thumb is not "ruh roh". It's the best thing ever for me!! He can now put himself to sleep for a good nap. I absolutely love it!

What I don't like these days is Jake, the dog, barking at every little noise he hears. I put the remote control down on the table and he went ballistic!

On thumb sucking: I feel like I can write a thesis on the pros and cons on thumbs, binkys, and other comfort items. Marc and I chose the binky because we know we can take it away later, but can't take a thumb away or prevent a kid from sucking on it. See the movie "thumb sucker." My brother chose to "sleep train" at 5 months and took the binky away totally, but it was merely replaced with a series of cloth dollies. Either way, I"m not sure what the best solution is. We're going to "forget" Claire's binkys (which she only has at night and in the car when she's tired) for this vacation and see how that goes. Wish us luck!
