Surgery

So . . . I have to go in for surgery. It's not a big deal, or so I've been told, but it's still surgery. Yuck. What I'm most concerned about is the recovery time. I hate being bed-ridden. Anyway, I think I've got my classes managed. Gosh, I really really hate messing with syllabus calendars.

Still listening to Alt-Country. Currently spinning Neko Case's "Fox Confessor . . ."

Project Runway tonight. I hope Jeffrey doesn't get kicked off because he out-sourced. A big part of me believes he IS that fast with a needle and a thread.

It's been a busy academic year for reading appearances. I've got one coming up at UW on Nov. 2nd with Rigo and Rick. I've also got a few in the Winter and the Spring. Oh happy day.

Cool! Be sure you e-mail me about the UW reading - I'd love to see you guys together!
So sorry to hear about the surgery. I know It always takes longer than we expect to bounce back. I hope it's something very minor and that you're back on your feet in no time! Thinking good thoughts...

Hope everything goes well and that you're out of bed in no time. I dig the new Beck. And Oliver, if you haven't heard Beauty Pill, check em out. They're one of my new favorites.

Thanks guys. My surgeon's great. Probably the best bedside manner in a physician I've ever seen. I'll probably be down and out for five days, but after that, I'll be up and running.

As for the UW gig, I don't know a whole lot, but I should suspect I'll learn a little more this weekend.

I would be interested in hearing about any other alt-country music you enjoy. I love Uncle Tupelo, Lucinda and Steve Earle, but want to expand my listening.

Hey Jim. I dig Neko Case's Furnace Room Lullaby. It's creepy . . . murder balladish.

I also like The Scud Mountain Boys who put out a "best-of" album of sorts through Sub Pop. I don't think they're around as a band any longer. Joe Pernice, the lead singer, went on to do other projects.

There's also Golden Smog whose band members are interchangeable.

Let's see . . . I love Will Oldham aka Bonnie Prince Billy. Mr. Appalachia himself.

There's other stuff, too, but it sounds like you have some of the same albums I have.
